Happy Mother’s Day. Druckenmiller once said the way to build long-term returns is through preservation of capital and home runs. Not singles. Not diversification for its own sake. Find the best pitch, size it, and protect the downside.
That is exactly what played out last week. We published six levels. Three triggered. ES ran from 7,248 to 7,428. The index never gave us the dip to press at 7,135, but it did not matter. The leaders we have been tracking since W13 set up beautifully on single-name entries. Semis, AI infra, minerals. All momentum-driven, all riding structural tailwinds. That has been the trade, and it keeps working. The home runs are in the names, not the index.
The index is at records. The average stock is not. SOX is outperforming the equal-weight S&P by 22%, the widest gap in 30 years. Prime brokerage data shows hedge funds max long the winners. Retail sentiment hit the 99th percentile and just started to fade. That concentration resolves. This week’s data decides how.
The Lie: +1 Cautiously Constructive. Down from +2 last week. Breadth deteriorated from 55% to 42%. The rally is real but the participation is not broadening. We are leaning, not pressing.
Here is what the crowd is missing. Option premiums sit at the 16th percentile. Protection is cheaper than 84% of the past year. The last three times IV was this low with breadth below 45%, ES pulled back 2-4% within two weeks. Priced for perfection while half the stocks are not participating. That is a setup.
The scorecard, six levels for the week, two high-conviction ideas, and the full game plan are below the fold.
